What does HGU stand for?
HGU stands for Home Gateway Unit. The GPON Home Gateway Unit (HGU) is an
G.984/G.988 GPON ONU designed for delivery of IP-based data services, IPTV video services to the single-family home or apartment. GP1704E GPON HGU offers one 1000M,three 100M Ethernet ports with advanced L2 functionality for Data and IPTV video services, fuel a rapid transition to fiber to the home (FTTH) and higher bandwidth services. Using 802.11n wireless technology, Wi-Fi enabled computers and devices can wirelessly connect to the GP1704E ONU and share a single incoming Internet connection. With four additional Ethernet LAN ports, you can connect to your network Ethernet-enabled devices.

GP1704E GPON HGU is designed for indoor installation and can be desktop or wall-mounted. A single optical fiber carries upstream and downstream traffic over the GPON between the OLT and the GPON ONU. The GPON Home Gateway Unit is fully provisioned and remotely managed via the OLT. A future-proof, Fiber To The Home (FTTH) solution, GP1704E GPON HGU is a critical element in the successful delivery of multimedia video, voice and data over a single optical fiber
 
It is suited for residential and SOHO markets, provides comprehensive L2 switching, QoS and Security Features for SOHO applications and is a cost effective GPON-based fiber to the home (FTTH) solution.
